Hi baby, how are you? After flirting with you, dropping hints, and keeping you waiting all summer long, I felt it was time to let the penetration come to a climax. It’s official, your AUTUMN HOE anthem is becoming the 2nd single from “Loverboy Lucian”. As the leaves start to change colors and fall, I felt it was time to get on my knees and WORK for your love. Which is exactly what this bombastic new single does. After everything I have presented thus far, I feel I have I earned the right to be more daring and out there. While I’ll always be the boy who sings about his memories, I’m also the loverboy asking valid questions such as, DOES YOUR GF KNOW ABOUT ME? In all seriousness, I’m incredibly proud of all the hard work that has been put into this next loverboy chapter.
I had the blessing and the privilege to work with director Taylor Barnes and Cinematographer Ryan Murphy (who also worked with J COLE, JON BATISTE, and Lil Wayne, to name drop a few). They pitched me a video in April that I could NOT turn down. That zoom meeting was such a cathartic moment for me. I had never been pitched something that used my talents in a way that hasn’t been touched since “Scars That Bind” in 2021. I LEGIT get to act in this video. I think after my “Aim For The Heart” set experience, I desperately craved something different. And in all honesty, I wanted to get a little naughty. I may have a song called “Good Boy”, but even that’s about going bad for a baddie. “Girlfriend” is one of the most complex songs in my discography. It needed a lot of thought, a lot of care, and a lot of belief to be brought to life. Tay and Ry did that and so much more. Those guys took the base of Loverboy Lucian and turned it up. It’s a complete 180, but still very much so building off of what came before. I’ll say a lot more about them later, but it’s been one of the greatest privileges of my career to work with these men who clearly pushed me out of my comfort zone and into something so much more, and so much better.
How do we like the single cover? The photoshoot was done by my dear friend, Justin Adam. And the graphic design was done by my other dear friend, Fabrice Ducouret. I have been dying to work with J for the longest. He’s my friend, I adore him and his work. I’m genuinely a fan of that man. Having him and Fabby come on board was a dream. They understood Tay & Ry’s 70’s/80’s playboy vibe, and matched the freak of what “Does Your Girlfriend Know About Me?” is about. Wait til you see the other photos from the shoot. I feel so fucking cool, because honestly, these men have made me cooler. It was my first photoshoot shot on film, and it won’t be my last… God, I am one lucky loverboy to work with talents like these men.
It’s not just all men. We had amazing woman and people apart of this project. THE CAST AND CREW. OMG… I have never had a crew like this on any previous Roy visual project. Having people actually work lighting, and playback, etc, and not complaining about anything, was a dream. It was the first time on any set that I genuinely felt AT PEACE. I was always stressed on every project prior, but everyone on this set had my back. They knew they were on a Loverboy Lucian set, my set, and they brought nothing but LOVE. I love them so fucking much. And I wish I got photos with everyone. But one thing is for sure, they are invited on any of my sets moving forward. I’ll share more about them later as well.
Speaking of cast… My love interest is played by the PHENOMENAL Kylie Young. This is the first time I didn’t have a hand in casting my on screen partner in crime. I trusted Tay & Ry, and I knew they would pull through. Kylie is a STAR, and my god does she steal the music video. When I first watched back our footage, I said, FUCKKKKKKKKKKK, WE DID THAT. WE ATE. As to why my love interest is a female, well.. watch the damn video to find out, LOL. Sexuality is a spectrum, and as I get older, and more in tune with my loverboy heart, I’m open to a lot more things. I don’t need to elaborate, just enjoy the glory of the work I’m giving you. Cause this music video and song is right next to “memories”, of the the things I’m most proud of in my career thus far. And throw your support at Kylie when this video releases. Because that woman is amazing, and she made this video the “It girl” that it is.
The Loverboys are also in a music video, for the first time ever. Having Mike and Mickey with me on set and ACTING alongside me was something I’ll always cherish. It’s only the start for those 2 boys to be on camera with me. Lest we forget, we have more projects releasing after this song…
Lastly, Girlfriend touches on a part of my personal life that old me would have never dared to share or discuss. The title alone gets people talking, get’s people involved. Go ahead you can be nosy bitches, but I'm being real and honest here. From the song, to the lyrics, to the on screen portrayal of it all. While I’m no home wrecker, I don’t fuck with affairs. I am a loverboy. I am boy who fell in love with another boy. I loved him in a way that birthed this song. Even long after the fact, I only had one question, and it’s time that the question is brought to the forefront of it all. DOES YOUR GIRLFRIEND KNOW ABOUT ME?…
I truly hope you’ll love this VERY different, new direction we’re headed in. I have never worked on something like this in my life. I have poured every part of myself, new and old, into this, and I am so proud of myself, and everyone involved. Buckle up hotties, we’re about to fuck some shit up!! THURSDAY NIGHT AT 9PM PST 💋
